The global increase in energy demand and the debate about climate change have placed power engineering technology in the spot light and at the forefront of discussions. New technologies in this sector are being investigated in order to effectively and efficiently use the available resources.

In water pumping applications (for example baths, spas, hot tubs, swimming pools and water irrigation systems) where there is a large dynamic water head (frictional losses due to water flow in pipe work), a lot of energy can be saved by using a variable speed drive. This is because the centrifugal pump curve follows a cube law for power consumption. Hence a 20% reduction in speed saves approximately 50% of energy costs and a 50% reduction in speed saves about 80% of energy costs which is quite staggering.

The amount of saving will depend on the size (kW) and efficiency of the IP55 VSD inverter. Patents are now pending on our unique liquid cooled IP55 inverter drive. Further this inverter drive has built-in active power factor correction in some models. In this power category, none of the commercially available drives have an integrated active power factor correction that our inverter drive provides.
